Artist and West Side Rag regular contributor Robert Beck gives us the stories behind the images he has created for his column, West Side Canvas. How did they happen? Why do they look that way?
Beck is known for employing multiple subjects and viewpoints to address larger topics. He focuses on the world around him, working mostly from life on site, chronicling our time and place. He is a gifted storyteller and teacher.
Beck has painted in more than a hundred places that matter to the UWS community, from inside Tip-Top-Shoes and Café Luxembourg to Knitty City and the Dakota. Each was published with an essay in the Rag. You will come away from his talk seeing the Upper West Side a little differently and knowing more about painting.
Get the stories behind the popular West Side Rag column. There will be time for questions.
